A Study on the Newest Research Trends of Aromatic Herbal Medicine

Abstract
This study was aimed to suggest direction for research and development through analysis of trends in studies of aromatic herbs in published Korean and abroad articles. We searched papers on ¡®www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed¡¯ and ¡®www.riss.kr¡¯, and then filtered using keywords, aroma oil or essential oil and/or oriental medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Korean medicine, herbal medicine et al. in reported articles for recent 3 years from 2009 to 2013. We reviewed 80 searched articles in abroad and 11 searched articles in Korean. Nowadays, medicinal plant was more used than herbal medicine. And in vitro study mainly studied with Korean and abroad articles. The herbs, used for essential oil study, were Artemisiae Capillaris Herba, Curmumae longae Radix, Anglicae Dahuricae Radix, Scutellariae Radix and Houttuyniae Herba et al.. These results suggest herbal medicines with essential oil can be available as the good candidate for aromatic products in various field.
